2014 Nixi Tibetan Pottery Cultural Exhange Tour from Aid to Artisans on Vimeo.
For four weeks, five Nixi Tibetan Potters (aided by ATA Consultant Kathy Erteman, translator Sunnuo Zhuma and members of Aid to Artisans’ staff) connected with American potters and patrons across the United States as a part of a cultural exchange tour. Stops included Los Angeles, Santa Fe, New York, Washington, D.C, Asheville and Bakersville. This ongoing collaboration between Aid to Artisans and artisans in the Nixi village aims to conserve a treasured cultural tradition, Nixi Black Pottery, while providing significant tangible opportunities to develop new markets and appreciation of this 1200-year-old tradition to an audience beyond the Nixi village.
Here is a video of their journey.
